We use a range of communication methods at the SENtre. We use visual timetables, photos and timers for transition periods. We also have a board with staff photos and activities for the day. Our staff also use MAKATON alongside speech to assist the children.

Lunch time

We have lunch at 12-1pm. We all sit together but if any children find this overwhelming we have separate seating. We will slowly move the separate seating closer to the other children and gradually introduce them to the big table at their own pace.

Children bring their own food. There are no nuts allowed at the club. We have a kitchen if food requires warming up.

Toilets and nappies

We have toilets within the building which are allocated to us. We have trained staff who assist the children while using the toilet. If a child requires assistance the member of staff will stay with them and if they can independently use the toilet the staff member will wait outside the door. We also have nappy changing facilities if required. Parents will need to provide nappies, wipes, and a change of clothes

We have 1:1 staff for children who may have challenging behaviours or high sensory behaviours. There are limited 1:1 spaces every day. 1:1 spaces are decided by management by assessing your forms.

If your child displays behaviours we do have a thinking/calm down space. We also have PECs signs and will redirect children to alternative activities.
